Billabong is an Australian company that produces surf clothing and have managed to dominate one a very competitive marketplace. Australian company Billabong is at present worth more than a billion dollars and has achieved all this since its creation in 1973.
Products include board shorts, footwear, watches and a whole lot more surf and urban clothing products. Billabong has multiple brands and operating in all major countries throughout the world.

Where did the name Billabong come from?
It is the word Billa & Bong that were combined for this well known brand name. Billa is a word used in Australian to describe flowing water like rivers or streams. Bong means to die and when put together Billabong therefore means dead water basically referring to a motionless body of water.
From the Billabong logo you can see two static waves which are a visual representation of the words meaning. The term Billabong is unique to Australia and is used by the native aboriginal people thus Billabong wanted to use the word to remind people of their roots.
How did Billabong become popular?
After the establishment of Billabong in 1973 it was just 2 years until 1975 when they opened their first factory. The factory naturally was a great boost to Billabong and was the start of their climb to the top. With an ever expanding empire the production and quality of Billabong products was what lead to an ever increasing bottom line with increased profits year on year. 1981 was Billabongs first year that they made mode than a million dollar in sales and this was helped by thier new larger factories.
Sponsoring the World Finals Surfing Contest was what really catapulted Billabong into the surfing limelight and they remain on top of their game today.
