What Should A Diamond Engagement Ring Cost

The most traditional answer to the question of how much to spend on an engagement ring is: how much can you afford, and how much is it worth to you and your fiancé?
A vitally important symbol for many of their coming marriage is an engagement ring. For many others it is an investment, not only in each other, but in the new family’s property. Some people consider it an investment in the brides future; it is one expensive possession that will belong to her no matter what the outcome is. Some may find diamonds useless and dangerous, something that only old time beliefs require. Obviously each couple considered above will have a very different idea of the “right” cost of an engagement ring.
The amount often used as a rule of them, “two months of the buyer’s income,” was first presented as part of an ad campaign from De Beers, and it is De Beers which has pressed hardest to make a diamond the “proper” stone for engagement rings. Engagement rings were not required before De Beers increased the value of mined diamonds.
When you are aware of that, you can make better decisions as a couple about the important aspects of a ring. If you want a larger investment, you may want to spend more than two months of your wages on the rings for your lady.
It may cost you substantially more for an investment piece! If the ring is primarily a symbol of loving intentions and faith, then as little as 100 dollars on a relatively precious stone or a nicely simulated diamond can be fully satisfying for everyone that is involved.
If you know what you want to purchase, and are comfortable with the amount you wanna spend, what you should do is check the current prices on stones and gold. With very little time these can be located on the internet.
Your ring is priced to include design, labor and merchandising charges, but if you know the cost of materials, you should get a better sense of those extra charges.
The thing that matters is that your engagement ring is up to you, with plenty of alternatives to fit any couple. This amount is what you spend next to get what you want with your purchase. The only way to have a “right” or “wrong” amount is if you pay more than the ring is actually valued.
Don’t get so caught up in the buying process that you allow something beautiful to take over your common sense if it is not what you had originally planned for.
